Welcome To WARFA, The Western Section Of The Friendship Net, continued...
We are interested in YOU. So if you have GOOD news like an up-grade, kids in college, or just to find out if your getting out of the block (and why), we want to hear about it. We have a health and welfare chairperson who sends out cards to those who are under the weather, congratulations, and the like.

WARFA has had an impact on the lives of many. Recently, A group of hams helped put a station back together for an 81-year-old ham. Many have helped handicap hams with such projects as the WARFA train table, antenna setups and helping whenever and wherever they can. On net nights you will hear about what they did and to the last, no one person will take credit. This is the spirit of WARFA. Behind the radios on the Left Coast, are a committed group of volunteers. Some volunteers average over 20 hours a week in volunteer service to WARFA. Some WARFA members take it upon themselves to check up on those who are sick or have not been heard from in sometime, then report back under the net H&W section.

There are NO dues, NO fees or cost to join this friendly group. All you need to do is to check in and you are entered into a database that the net control keeps, WQNI. That database now has over 1,500 calls. It a blessing that they all don't check in at the same time, especially the silent keys, (now that would be a first)! If we have a silent key in our group, at the first of the net there is a CW call to that person. A very special bereavement certificate is also given to the family. With our data base and net check ins, it is easy to say that we are the largest club group of hams of its type in the US, and it's all based on friendship.

After 52 check-ins within a one-year time frame, and you send your logs via snail mail to the net secretary, Moody T. Law, WQ6I, P.O. Box 639, Claremont, CA, 91711 and you will receive a great certificate, FREE, of course.

WARFA also sponsors a SWAP NET on Wednesday night at 8:00 p.m., Pacific Time on 3.908MHZ. What makes this swap net so interesting is that net control accepts e-mail listings from all over the country. After each net, the e-mail listings and those who check in with a listing are posted on three Internet Web pages. WARFA also has a web page which has all swap meets in AZ, CA, ID, MT, NM, NV, OR, UT, WA and British Columbia, This list is used by Swap Nets all over the west and is posted to 6 other web sites. For more information on the WARFA Swap Net, Please contact swap@warfa.org.

We are also on Pal Talk, on your computer. Pal Talk's web site in a new window

WARFA Retreats: From the small group of people at the WARFA retreat in 1997 (14 R/V), it now has over 200 attendees at the BBQ on Saturday night, with upwards of 30 R/Vs. Many first timers talk about how friendly everyone is and the food. (Average gain in weight is about 1 pound per day at the retreat). At a recent retreat, it was documented that hams and their families went through 305 pounds of hamburger, hot dogs, fish, chicken, turkey, beef and ribs. The Spring 2006 broke all records for attendance.

Again, we want to welcome you to the "Friendliest Group Around" The Western Amateur Radio Friendship Association.
