The EARL Report de WØQNI:
One step backwards, five steps forward.
Moody (WQ6I) and Tony (KA6YEZ), went to see Earl Saturday. They found Earl sitting up and he tried to communicate with them. He was alert and from a nurse Moody and Tony found out the following. He is communicating with the nurses via writing notes to them, as he cannot communicate because of a tracheotomy. He is spending about four hours a day in a chair.
Joe, NU6L, talked with Bobby Earl's wife Sunday. This is what he found out. Earl has been removed from dialysis, therefore he does not need the kidney doctor any longer. His kidneys are functioning well. He is on the ventilator only at night. He does not have any fever.
The best news is that he may be transferred to a skilled facility this coming week.
Our thanks to Moody and Tony for their compassion. Tony could see the love that Moody had for Earl and commented on it during the net.
Mike, K6LDK tells us via last night's net that his wife, Natalee will begin 25 consecutive days of radiation therapy next week. Natalee is doing rather well and biding her time, Mike says.
Blondie is up for her recertification as therapy dog next week. Mike expects her to pass her exams with flying colours. Rio is testing for a position as a therapy dog for the first time. Mike says that Rio will do fine, if she doesn't do "any dumb puppy stuff".
Earl is still in about in the same condition. He is still on ventalation and back on dialysis. They still have not rid of the fungus in his lungs, etc. As we said before, its going to be a long road to recovery.
de WØQNI
: Earl has had a setback. He is back on ventilation 3 times a day. He is still responding to commands and when Bobby is in the room he recognizes her. Its like two steps forward, one step backwards.
Jim Crawford, K6KMW, passed to a better place Thursday night at 11:12 PM. I talked to Kathy, his XYL and they are going to preform an autopsy which should be completed Monday or Tuesday. Jim had been sick for some time with esophageal Cancer but it is suspected that it might have been a blood infection called WRSA(sp?).
Many of you may remember him as he was the first net control of the
swap net in the late 90's and acted as our southern relay for WARFA. He was in a wheelchair at the last retreat he and Kathy attended
Kathy requested that no flowers be sent but please make a donation to your local cancer society. This was Jim's request. Cards may be sent

V.E. TESTING AT THE RETREAT A total of Seven (7) Candidates took the exam. They were --
Michael G. Kessinger (no license): Passed Tech Exam
Andrew Morris (no license): Passed Tech
Update: (Note from Dave, WA6UHA)
You might add an update to candidate Andrew Morris. Since passing his tech at the retreat, he just last passed his General exam at a VE session in Los Angeles last week. His current call is KI6ZPS and has applied for a vanity.
Please Note: Michael G. Kessinger also took the exam for General, but did not pass. Mr. Kessinger's testing was noteworthy because he informed the testing team of his disability - dyslexia. As a result, a team member accommodated him by reading each test question for each exam to him.
The WARFA ARRL Testing Team Members were -- Norman W. Watters, WG6W Patricia Sneed, KF6P Leand Sheffield, KC6MCI Don Cain, NJ6Z Theodore Sneed, WG6F Willie Patterson, WZ6M, and Diane E. Watters, KC6FAQ (Non-VE) assisted the team

The Western Public Service System Annual Picnic will be held on Saturday, July 18th at Laguna Seca, Monterey County, CA.
Guest net control was your friendly webmaster, Bart, WA6HZN.
Overall band conditions were B-. We were bothered to some extent by the usual summer static crashes and the skip was rather short, not much beyond 600 miles. Stations further out and the occasional closer in station were drowning in the noise.
The total number of check-ins came to 63. Here are your friendly net control's
raw notes for last night's net. Hit your browser's back control to return to this page.
Except for a few nets where the static was horrible, we have had good conditions. Averages have been in the mid 70's for check ins.
The line graph will be updates this comming week.
